Harry Potter EBOOKS

A cabal of brawling virtual wizards has overwhelmed JK Rowling's Pottermore, forcing the website to temporarily remove a popular duelling game and pushing the launch of the Harry Potter ebooks back until 2012.
The much-anticipated launch of the Harry Potter ebooks was initially scheduled for October 2011, when the interactive Pottermore website was set to open up to general use. But the one million beta users of the site have been "incredibly active, interacting with the site far more intensely and frequently than we thought they would", according to officials, with 550m page views already chalked up since it opened in August. The Wizard's Duel feature has proved to be "even more popular than … anticipated", and has been withdrawn until it can "cope with the large number of users we expect".
As a result, Potter's debut in the digital book arena has been delayed until the first half of 2012, while general access to Pottermore will be in phases from the end of October. "We've seen really high levels of activity, and interaction with the site has been phenomenal. This affects how quickly we can give everyone access," said the site's official blog. "Access may be granted quickly, but please note it could also take some weeks or months, depending on demand."
Delaying the ebooks and digital audiobooks launch will, said Pottermore, "allow us to focus on our first priority: opening Pottermore to as many people as possible and making the experience as good as it can be".
The hold-up means Harry Potter ebooks will not be available for fans this Christmas, but the Bookseller's Charlotte Williams, a registered Pottermore user, said this was unlikely to dent their popularity. It also, she added, suggested that Rowling and her Pottermore colleagues "are in no rush to launch anything until all potential problems have been sorted out".

"Potter fans are so loyal, and it seems they have engaged with Pottermore even more than Rowling and co were anticipating, so I don't think there will be major financial implications to delaying the launch of the ebook store," she said. "It does mean that it won't be open this Christmas, which might marginally affect Bloomsbury and the other publishers of Harry Potter worldwide, as maybe people will be talking about the brand slightly less and therefore buying fewer physical editions – but honestly, Potter is such a big brand, it is never far from readers' minds. A delayed launch may even mean a greater second wave of excitement about the ebooks becoming available as the anticipation builds up over a longer period of time."

A wide array of methods, as well as several dedicated ‘spatial’ econometric procedures (see, for
example, Anselin et al. 2004), for the statistical analysis of georeferenced data are available in the
literature. These techniques are useful when analysing regional unemployment data, as in our case
study, and, particularly, when the final aim is to develop forecasting models for some regional scale.
Among conventional spatial econometric methods, spatial autoregression (see, among others, Anselin
1988; Griffith 1988) is a powerful method commonly employed. Spatial autoregressive techniques take
into account spatial effects by means of geographic weights matrices that provide measures of the
spatial linkages (dependence) between values of georeferenced variables. Because of bias, statistical

efficiency concerns and the normality assumption, OLS should not be carried out with such data.
Furthermore, maximum likelihood estimators of spatial regression models are based on restrictive
assumptions. An alternative approach to spatial autoregression is the use of spatial filtering techniques,
such as the ones described in Griffith (1981), Haining (1991), Getis and Griffith (2002), and
Tiefelsdorf and Griffith (2006). The advantage of these filtering procedures is that the variables studied
(which, initially, are spatially correlated) are split into spatial and non-spatial components, which can
be employed in an OLS modelling framework. Filtering out spatially autocorrelated patterns also
enables one to reduce the stochastic noise in the residuals of conventional statistical methods such as
OLS. This conversion procedure requires the computation of ‘spatial filters.’ The approach developed
by Griffith (1996; 2000) will be briefly described here. This approach is preferred in our case study to
the one by Getis (1990; 1995), which requires variables with a natural origin. This constraint would not
allow us to analyse patterns in employment growth rates, which will be studied in the future

Spatial matters are of critical importance when considering socio-economic (and other) phenomena
(see, for example, Bockstael 1996; Weinhold 2002), as well as because of their implications for
policymaking (Lacombe 2004). To account for the presence of spatial structures that influence
(positively or negatively) observable economic entities, such as unemployment or trade, calls for a
rigorous and systematic assessment of their impact and extent. Spatial autocorrelation (SA) represents
the correlation, computed among the values of a single georeferenced variable, that is attributable to the
geographic proximity of the objects to which the values are attached. Introduction of the SA concept is,
of course, a departure from the classical assumption of independence of observations constituting a
single variable. SA also complements the concept of temporal autocorrelation, which has been
extensively studied and dealt with in time-series econometrics. SA measures are used to quantify the
nature and degree of the spatial correlation within a variable, or to test the assumption of independence
or randomness. From a statistical analysis viewpoint, spatial correlation patterns are problematic, since
they make standard statistics, such as correlation coefficients or ordinary least squares (OLS) estimates,
potentially inappropriate.

This paper aims to provide an assessment of how important spatial effects are in explaining
unemployment levels in Germany, and, particularly, to show that these (or, more precisely, a subset of
these) patterns are consistent over time. The definition of stable and recognizable spatial patterns
enables one to observe systematic differences in regional unemployment. Such findings can have
implications for policy evaluation and strategic planning. This paper presents analyses carried out by
means of a semi-parametric ‘spatial filtering’ technique, described in Griffith (2003), which is based on
the decomposition of geographic weights matrices. In our analysis, these matrices are defined for 439
German districts, according to both topological and distance-based criteria – such as shared boundaries
or centroid distance – and economic flows. In this regard, journey-to-work flows are employed as a
proxy for economic linkages.
Kosfeld and Dreger (2004) investigate spatial patterns of German regional labour markets, for the
period 1992–2000. However, their approach involves computing spatial filters for each year within the
framework of a spatial seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) model. Our approach differs from theirs
in that we focus on the search for a set of spatial filters that are significant and consistent over time, and
therefore can be employed for the entire time period considered (that is, 1996–2002). Also, we employ
data at a finer level of disaggregation (439 districts versus 180 regions), which enables a more detailed
analysis of the underlying spatial patterns.

Socio-economic interrelationships among regions can be measured in terms of economic flows,
migration, or physical geographically-based measures, such as distance or length of shared areal unit
boundaries. In general, proximity and openness tend to favour a similar economic performance among
adjacent regions. Therefore, proper forecasting of socio-economic variables, such as employment,
requires an understanding of spatial (or spatio-temporal) autocorrelation effects associated with a
particular geographic configuration of a system of regions. Several spatial econometric techniques have
been developed in recent years to identify spatial interaction effects within a parametric framework.
Alternatively, newly devised spatial filtering techniques aim to achieve this end as well through the use
of a semi-parametric approach. Experiments presented in this paper deal with the analysis of and
accounting for spatial autocorrelation by means of spatial filtering techniques for data pertaining to
regional unemployment in Germany. The available data set comprises information about the share of
unemployed workers in 439 German districts (the NUTS-III regional aggregation level). Results based
upon an eigenvector spatial filter model formulation (that is, the use of orthogonal map pattern
components), constructed for the 439 German districts, are presented, with an emphasis on their
consistency over several years. Insights obtained by applying spatial filtering to the database are also
discussed.

The written lab report should contain:
The results from task 1, i.e. images and histograms before and after
applying 'histogram stretching'.
The function my_histeq and the results after histogram equalization
of the image tire.tif.
The results from task 3, i.e. images before and after ltering (using at
least one smoothing lter and one sharpening lter). Which lters did
you use? How did you choose the parameters? Motivate your choices.
The results from task 4, i.e. images with and without noise (using at
least one lter). Which lter did you choose (size, weights)? Why?
Any additional comments (for example: what did you like? Was the lab
interesting, boring, too easy, too dicult?) is very welcome!
The report should be given to me no later than two weeks after
the lab has been performed.
Please, do NOT send me word document by e-mail. Thank you!

Task 2. Histogram equalization
In this part of the lab the student is supposed to write a Matlab-function
that performs histogram equalization on an image. The function should have
the following initial lines:
function [im_out] = my_histeq(im_in,n);
% IM_OUT = MY_HISTEQ(IM_IN,N) transforms IM_IN to IM_OUT
% according to the histogram equalization method.
% N specifies the number of possible grayscale values in IM_IN,
% default value is 256.
% The values in IM_IN are assumed to be in the range of 0 255

Useful commands:
nargin to check if N is set to a value di erent to 256
hist creates an histogram of the image values. Please, note that this function
calculates an histogram of a vector. Therefore, use (:) to vectorize an image
matrix.
cumsum calculates the transformation function for a given histogram .

Test your function on the image tire.tif
Task 3. Spatial ltering
Study the e ect of di erent ltering, by writing, for example, the following
lines for a smoothing lter:
>> im = imread('saturn.tif');
>> mean_filter = ones(9,9); % change the size as you like...
>> mean_filter = mean_filter/numel(mean_filter);
>> filtered_im = imfilter(im,mean_filter);
>> figure(1);clf;colormap gray
>> subplot(121)
>> imshow(im)
>> title('Original image')
>> subplot(122)
>> imshow(filtered_im)
>> title('Smoothed image')
Repeat the exercise using a sharpening lter to enhance edges.
The aim of this lab is to acquire a deeper knowledge regarding image enhencement
using di erent histogram operation methods and ltering in the spatial
domain. All tasks imply that the student has to implement the methods
using Matlab.
In each task a number of appropriate commands in Matlab will be suggested.
In order to get more speci ed information about each command type
help and the command you want more information about. The command
lookfor is also useful.
Task 1. 'Histogram stretching'
Here the student is supposed to write a Matlab-function that performs
'histogram stretching' on an image in order to cover the whole range of gray
level values. Write the following in a m- le and complete it.
function [im_out] = my_histstretch(im_in);
% IM_OUT = MY_HISTSTRECH(IM_IN) transforms IM_IN to IM_OUT
% according to the histogram stretching method.
% The values in IM_IN are assumed to be in the range: 0 255
% Make sure that im_in has double precision
im_in = double(im_in);
low = min(min(im_in));
high = max(max(im_in));
im_out = ...
% Convert the image values in the range: 0 255
im_out = uint8(im_out);
Write help my_histstretch. Do you recognize the information? Study
how your function 'histogram stretching' operates on an image, for example
trees.tif, by writing:

Google adwords review

Marketing experts have researched on the most efficient way to be visible and that they resorted to Google AdWords in order to do that. This strategy is proven to reach the masses since the increasing statistics of internet use. More people get to be informed about what you have to offer in terms of products and services via the net.
To elaborate on how Google AdWords can work at your business advantage, strategies need to be understood. In fact, there are three things you need to know about search engine marketing. The first of the three is appropriate keywords use or on conventional terms, more known as taglines.
On advertising lingo, taglines are used to make your product get noticed. This is comprised of words that are unique and has a good connection about your product whereabouts. It should be a standout, catchy and easy to remember. The same principle applies with your AdWords. Whenever people see your online advertisement, it should be inviting and probably quite entertaining.
After selecting what you think are effective keywords for Google AdWords, you may want to go on with pay per click strategy. This is a paid kind of online marketing and should be used coinciding with the right keywords. Note that internet users will only get to click on your ad if it sounds interesting and relevant to such an individual.
This kind of strategy enables you to penetrate a lot more markets existing on the web. With just one click, people will get to see your product details, price, etc. This in effect will boost your online presence and thereby increase your potential clients. Though pay per click may incur you some expense, it sure to be worthwhile as you go along.
Last but not the least is visual strategy or video streaming on the net. Google AdWords may appear visually through videos on the internet. This is in far the most effective way in advertising online. You maximize this by making visually attractive graphics.
Paid TV commercials are comparable to video ads online. The only difference is that on TV, there are time slots and these have corresponding fees. Online video advertisements do not have time slots. The wonder of internet is that people have an access to your sort of commercial anytime at their convenience. This also can be cost efficient in the long run, since it requires less work and manpower.
In conclusion, there are three tips to which you can strategize your online advertisements and these are: keyword appropriation, pay per click and video streaming you can choose from. Any of the aforementioned may help you enhance your web presence. Note that Google AdWords can be dynamic and that it offers a lot of ways in helping you market your business.

Google is respected company

It's a battle to get to the top of the search engines, especially on competitive or high traffic keyword expressions. If you're not doing absolutely everything in your power to play the game and to play the game right then you're going to get buried under the weight of your competitors' website. They'll be hoovering up the traffic, converting prospects that should be yours into customers you'll never have. Don't let it happen. One way of fighting back is to understand exactly what Google wants to see in your site. Keep Google happy and you stand a fighting chance.
Here are 3 more proven paths into Google's affection:
Video - Video may have killed the radio star but it can do wonders for your SEO. Did you know Google own YouTube? Your videos represent fresh and unique content, something Google's super keen on. Your video outposts also act as sources for in bound links, so break out the camcorder and get your director's hat on.
But, as Google can't interpret video data for SEO purposes, make sure your SEO creates text metadata for each media asset. The metadata should be published along with the Flash media player in plain HTML documents. There are also transcript opportunities. Transcribe the contents of your videos and publish them as standard crawalable web pages. Great for linkbuiding.
Clean up your act - Well, make sure you clean up your site code at the very least. Anything that might slow down your page load times, from Flash, to big images, to redundant code and broken links. It's not just onsite SEO that can help. Take a look at your hosting too. Cheap hosting using badly located servers stuffed with too many sites can also impact on your SEO. Google loves fast loading websites and you will be rewarded with a pagerank boost.
Google loves quality - Especially these days. Since the recent Farmer (aka Panda) updates have come in to weed out 'evil websites' it's all the more important that what you say on your site is said in style. How good is your content? Do visitors stick around to read it or do they bounce? Do they regularly come back for more? Remember the better the quality your websites copywriting and content, the better your online profile.

Google Media

Google Inc is one of the most respected companies in the world and, according to Fortune Magazine; it is also the most preferred employer in the world. It is a fact that "Google" has become a part of our vocabulary and is synonymous with online searches. Many young people use the term 'Google it' instead of saying 'search it' which shows the degree of impact it has been able to create on people. Many important and useful services are offered by this company apart from the search engine service, they are mainly YouTube for video hosting, Orkut for social networking and a recently launched service called Google Finance etc. Apart from the internet based services the company is also the developer of the popular mobile operating system called android. Thus, it's a giant corporation with billions of dollars in assets and turnover and a business module which is diverse, expanding and advanced.
Google Finance:
It is a service that was launched in 21st of March, 2006 and has been active since then and is available in most countries around the world. The first Non-US country to have it was Canada; it was designed to provide a specialized search experience for information about the financial sector like trends, live market updates, stock news, financial news from around the globe etc.
Surprisingly not too many people use it or are aware of the various facilities associated with it. There are many advantageous of this financial service, they are:
1) It is an absolutely free of cost market information guide which takes live feeds and provides real time market information.
2) It takes input from search results on a given day to predict the kind of stocks or FOREX that people can trade in to reap maximum profits. As it is the market leader in search engine, so it has a reliable database to get the required information for such kind of predictions.

4) Google Finance contains vital statistics about the monthly, quarterly and annual financial performance of various MNCs which can help people in deciding about the kind of company they can invest their money on.
5) It is a very simple and user friendly service that can be used by everyone.

Google and twitter

In the May 2009, many digital marketing professionals thought that Twitter would end Google's reign. However, a year later in 2010, Google ended such speculation by announcing that it had partnered with Twitter to include real-time tweets in its search results. Initially, it was believed that unless Twitter developed a system for cleaning up spam on its network, it could not possibly threaten Google. This was because the main USP of the Google is its ability to deliver relevant, high quality results for different search terms. Though these results were not completely spam-free, they were much better than the results provided by other search engines.
According to a Internet marketing article published in 2010 by Technology Review, Google equates a user following another user on a social networking website, to one web page adding a link to another on the Internet. Just as the value of a page increases when a highly-ranked page links to it, the quality of a user goes up if a more established user begins following him. Does this mean that getting more Twitter followers is the same as the common digital marketing strategy of collecting more incoming links?
No, not quite. Collecting followers on Twitter is one of the easiest things to spam. There are many tools out there that will follow users, based on specified digital marketing keywords. Most users, who are followed on Twitter, will usually return to the favour by following the follower. Once a digital marketing brand gets a ton of followers using such a tool, it is quite simple to unfollow a majority of these users with applications like ManageTwitter. Additionally, the brands could also get profile names which include a targeted digital marketing keyword, and also create other profiles having that same keyword.
The only way for Google to beat this is to modify their search engine algorithm to weed out profiles that do reciprocal social media following, similar to reciprocal link building. Another related issue is the importance of social search. Digital marketing pundits are always saying that people are more likely to trust the advice given by their friends, rather than Google's search results. Theoretically, this may be true, but in the actual practice, it is not so. In fact, most users begin to follow others simply because of a single smart tweet. They do not really know the person they are following or value their opinion

Google Local SEO

Google local SEO is now a phenomenon with the emergence of local marketing as a great potential. It is the same with the usual SEO. However, this type of SEO underscores the enhancement of local business' visibility online through gaining local traffic.
Learning the way your customers think when they search for something they need online is the primary thing you need to consider in local SEO. Analyze what your prospect clients would type in the search boxes in order to locate for the products you are selling or services you are offering.
Let us presume that you are selling activity books, activity books for preschoolers to be exact. If a searcher types in the search box the words "activity books", how then will he be able to reach your website? Would picking the words activity book be the ideal way to represent your business? Would that provide a good search?
The perfect words for promoting your business would be "preschool activity books", "toddler activity books" or "books for preschoolers". This shows that you need to stay away from broad keywords as their conversions are quite low despite their popularity and traffic-drawing ability. Pick more targeted keywords as these bring in traffic that convert into sales.
Normally after spotting on the right keyword combination, getting listed in Google local business directory is the next crucial thing to do. These days, marketing strategies show web content optimization as the second best step for local business to be found online. In here, make sure that the content you are optimizing is fitting to the local area you are targeting as this is ideal to getting the attention of potential customers there. The same works to be noticed by search engines and have them rank you in that specific area.
Fill your website with content related to the area and issues significant to your target clients. Since you are connecting with readers at a local level, you have to think a little out of the box. Come up with interesting and helpful insights. Most readers tend to visit websites with relevant content and share the website link to others too. This creates a solid network of organic backlinks for your business website which Google local SEO upholds when ranking websites of local businesses.
Presently, Google Places has provided equivalents to the previously mentioned backlinks. These are the local citations and references. Through them, Google shows that the more local references you have, the more trust and strength you gain from getting listed. The Google local search ecosystem incorporates a number of websites that are good places to start. If you are new to local search or are serious to getting ranked locally getting listed in these sites is deemed important. Some of these are Facebook, Twitter, Bing, Yahoo Local and the like.
You can also have your site listed in on a server located in the area you are trying to rank for in the search engines. The search engines can connect the location of your site with the server. This gives your website an SEO advantage. Remember to check the location of the server first before you have your site hosted as this can entail a big effect.
Google local SEO is important to any small business that wants to get localized and gain a large amount of traffic that converts to sales. Optimizing for a local area has several benefits. The best of these benefits is that your business website does not have to compete against a huge number of websites. Succeeding in this type of SEO though can be a local business' door to bigger recognition provided that it carries the best products and give excellent service. Besides, most worldwide businesses started out in their local areas.
Do you know how to get a website ranked higher on Google? The problem that most people have is they run their website for years just hoping to get on Google's search engine when it really should not take that long. My advice to you is that if it takes you longer than 6 months to get to the top of Google for your specific keyword then you need to do drop that site and try something else because it is just not working.
The first thing you need to know about getting ranked high on Google is that it all comes down to your link building and the content that you have on your site. If you wrote a bunch of junk articles then Google will most likely wait until your site has proved a little bit to them before they put you higher on the search engines. The problem with Google is that you have to play their game and the only way to win them over is to keep building backlinks, write great content, and just sit back and wait for Google to review your website again.
Tips To Get Positioned High On Google
Add Lots Of Content - The first tip is that you have to add lots of content to your site in order to get ranked high on Google. The reason why you need to add a lot of great content is because the more content you have the more Google will like you. It used to be that a few good articles was enough but with all the changes Google has made you will need to change your way of thinking.
Build Links Often - Something else you need to do is build backlinks on a daily basis. What building backlinks does is it helps you get onto the search engine a lot quicker. If you are like a lot of very motivated people you will go out and get 100 links in one day and stop, trust me when I say that it is better to get 25 links per day over 4 days than it is to do all the links in 1 day. Google is one of the smartest websites out there and because of this you need to build a certain number of links every day and do this until you see some results.
Wait - The last thing that you have to do in order to get ranked high on Google is to just wait. If you think Google is going to your content the second it gets published or pick up your links overnight then you are wrong, it takes a little bit of time. If you want to see some results then add some great content and build backlinks for a month or so and then see where you are at. The reason why this works is because it gives Google time to find the links that you built.
The one final thing that I want you to know is that the first place you should start building links is from a link directory. One of the best parts about a web link directory is they don't take very long to submit to and there are so many out there that you will have your hands full for a while.

Google is why awesome

Numerous software programs clutter up computers and mobile devices making it time consuming to find the information you need. Cloud computing solves these issues with a simple click. Launch your favorite program and maintain your daily life and schedule. A Google apps reseller can assist people in making their lives more organized.
The simple user interface allows login to a customizable dashboard that becomes a personal Internet cloud. Here the user finds such apps as email, photos, instant messaging, online storage and more. Create basic documents, organize presentations, design spreadsheets, and store and share all of it in real-time.
A free online storage syncing service called SkyDrive makes it possible to synchronize and share documents with anyone living on planet earth. It is like having your own password-protected vault that allows you to store such things as videos, photos and files and share them with other people.
Data Mining provides synced searches with links to such things as concert times, ticket sales, and listening to new songs or your old favorites, and you can invite friends to go along by simply sending the info to everyone in your list. This means that all of your results are instantly synced across your personal cloud of inner circle friends.
Web Apps make it possible to create a report, send it to your choice of devices, including laptops, smart phones and iPads. These documents are available for sharing even while you are working on them, and coworkers can collaborate without you worrying that you left that file at home on a different computer.
Live Messenger is like a personal switchboard. At a glance, you can see what friends are online, know if family members are surfing the Web, and contact coworkers if needed. You can send messages via voice, or text, even video content, and upload all of it to your favorite social networking site. All of these features work in real-time.
Sync Away coordinates the gateway to LiveSync that allows sending any file format to update all of your devices with that information in just a couple of mouse clicks. Laptops, GPS devices, Smartphones, and Bluetooth systems easily retrieve latest music files, phone numbers, and video documents along with anything else you have saved to a file.
Phone 7 devices become the command center for your personal cloud. Synchronize all your devices, buy tickets, video chat, and collaborate with coworkers all while walking down the street. Those are only some of the reasons to consider being a Google apps reseller.

The search engines have lately become the hot spot where most business people come to market what they have in order to be able to get ahead above the rest when it comes to making profits. For a number this has proven successful when they have put in their effort to use the best open opportunities. The method in use here is boosting of their ranking on the search engines. It has worked for those who have well structured their release such that whenever one inserts a word then it is in relation to their content making what they have on offer for sale as one of the top-most items and their site comes up first.
This works up well in attracting new visitors to a site and has them coming back by the beautiful display of what they have for sale. If you offer the best on your release, then you are assured that you will be able to appear on Google news. Google news is a situation where Google is able to sort out a number of various news sites and select the item that is the most recent in any industry putting it at the best chance to gain popularity among all the shoppers. You have to make sure to give highly ranked news to be able to get a selection as Google will look at the content and rank them based on the diversity, relevance, recentness and the location it comes from. All these when highly ranked then your content has qualified to be among the top news items.
To get Google News Submission, here is what you have to consider. You have to get site maps so that Google can have your site found efficiently whenever it conducts its search. It's bot will search for what type of business you are in for Google to be able to place you well in the search engine. It will search for publication time and the keyword occurrence in the whole publication.
Avery important aspects to be on the watch for whenever it is that you are having a publication is to make changes to your sites is that you have to add metatags when adding the contents the reason, being that they have to be specific to whatever you have written about in your time. One other thing that you should never forget is to give credit with any content given if it deserves it, or else flag the content as the original if it is your own creation. One thing to be careful about is that Google will not give you consideration if you have taken contents from other sites without authorization.

Bloggers Bathroom

A 32-year-old school teacher in the US calling herself Shrinking Girl has shown off pictures of her vivid orange bathroom suite.
Writing on her blog, she said it was so bright that as she was painting she started to smell citrus. The pictures she has posted look incredible, particularly the before shot, which reveals the difference to her drab old white walls.
"I have to admit I was a bit nervous when I first started," she explained and noted that it created such a contrast to her previous decor.
The entire room is decked out in varying shades of the colour and no section has been left untouched. The shower curtain is full of retro horizontal lines - some thin and reserved, some bold and brash - that really capture the eye.
Her toilet lid has been kitted out with a furry cover that matches the mat on her wooden floor and there's no doubt that Shrinking Girl will feel summery all year round whenever she has a wash.
If you are running out of space and need some bathroom furniture for your shampoo, makeup and deodorant? Well, you might be interested in a clever idea shown off by a US designer.
Lisa, writing on her Serendipity Chic Design blog, explained how she paid $1 (61p) for a battered old cabinet with a glass knob - which was worth more than one dollar, she said - before painting it red to match her bathroom.
She also fitted chicken wire into the doors but, unfortunately, it just ended up collecting dust in her home and she decided to update the design to suit a different part of the house.
Now, the cabinet looks like it has come straight out of a shabby chic catalogue. The red has been replaced with a dark cream - matching the colour of a headboard she also redecorated - and the back panelling has been given a lick of white paint.
The bathroom cabinet is in a new location hanging up in the family living space of Lisa's home - which she shares with her husband and three children - and could be an inspiration to others to raid their local car boot sale.
If you have an extra cupboard in your bathroom that you're struggling to find something to do with, you might be interested in a home-improvement project shown off by a woman in the US.
Posting on her Liz Marie Blog, North Carolina-based Liz Marie Galvan explained how the closet in her sizable bathroom was too overcrowded with shelves and needed to be streamlined.
First, she removed all the brackets and patched up the holes that had been left, before painting the walls a gentle grey colour to match the rest of the area. She said she used the opportunity to conduct a spring clean of items she no longer needed.
After the initial clearout had been finished, she added in a chest of drawers and only fitted two shelves. A large mirror was rested upon the chest and back wall, enhanced by small lights attached to the storage space above.
Ms Galvan noted that her husband - a serving marine - will also have use of the space but she refers to it as her vanity closet.
And finally, have you thought about breathing some new life into your shower but you're unsure how to do it? Why not consider adding in some ruffles to the curtain?
Writing for HGTV, Maria Parsons explained that the best way to start is to cut two king-sized bed sheets lengthways into ten-inch strips and then sew the new pieces of material onto a fabric curtain.
The stitching should work up from the bottom and you might like to keep in mind that the accessory should not touch the floor, as it may collect water. Overlap the lengths of material to create a seamless flow and be sure to reuse them so as to minimise waste.
Finally, fold over the last segment by about an inch and attach it to complete the look.

Bloogger Paradise

A lot of bloggers just don't know how to make money.
Some people are marketers at heart, and don't do all that well at blogging because they only try to promote stuff.
Others are bloggers at heart, and want to give everything away for free.
The real money is made somewhere in between those two...
I've talked to people who are just launching their blog, yet all they're concerned about is putting up banners and AdSense on their blog.
There's this blogger I read frequently (David Risley) that calls AdSense "blogger welfare".
In other words... not going to make you much money (unless you can get excited about affording an extra pizza a month).
And ditto for banners (unless you have tons of traffic).
Basically, the formula for making money is to FIRST focus on providing value and getting lots of eyeballs to your site, THEN working to monetize that traffic.
So, here's how successful bloggers do it.
3 Traits of a Profitable Blogger
1. Understand Their Market
I can't overstate how important this is! If you don't know who you're writing to, then you can't even begin to understand how to reach them and get them to interact on your blog (and, of course, buy stuff)
For example, I focus on network marketing on the internet... that's the overall theme of my blog.
My exact market are people learning how to market their MLM's on the internet.
Easy enough.
But let's look even deeper.
I know that over 90% of marketers are new and/or struggling.
This might be obvious, but I'm trying to write to those 90%.
If I write really super advanced posts, there's a good chance I'm cutting out most of my potential readers.
For example, I'm not going to give tips for speaking on stage, or putting on live events in Las Vegas. The average network marketer doesn't care.
So, I try to write easy to implement tips that anyone can put into practice right away.
Make sense?
The better you can pinpoint your typical reader, the easier and more effectively you can reach out and pull them in.
2. Consistent Writing and Action
People need to be able to rely on you. They want to know when your next post is coming out.
I think writing every day (Monday-Friday) is a fantastic way to become reliable in the minds of your readers.
They can visit my blog throughout the week, and I've usually posted something new.
Then, of course, you need to work at getting exposure to every blog post you write! This could easily be a blog post by itself...
Basically, whatever you do to get your blog posts shared across the net, make sure to be consistent and do that with every single post.
3. Sell Stuff
I like this one... and there's a reason I put it third on my list.
After you've done the first two points and really start to master them, you'll get a loyal following of devoted readers.
So... sell them stuff!
Just because you're a blogger doesn't mean you have to give everything away for free. It is a good idea to give some free reports and trainings, but you also have to pay your bills, too!
It could be affiliate products that have to do with what you write about and what your prospects are looking for.
Another (even better!) option is to create your own product. Your readers like reading what you have to say, and a product you create is something they'll definitely buy!
Basically, a profitable blogger FIRST has to focus on his readers. He has to create a relationship with people and get them to return frequently to the blog.
These readers see what you do, like what you write about, and generally look to you as an expert.

Best Practices of a Blog

So you wanna make a blog? You planned it all out. You know you can make it big. You know that you can make unique content. You have read through every possible tip you can find online and you think it's very easy. You are a few weeks or days into launching your blog. You have already looked through the tools and have already chosen between WordPress and blogger or any other tool. You have looked through different hosts and have already chosen one that fits you. Before you get the idea that I'm trying to discourage you, please don't. These are the things I believe that every would-be blogger out there should know before they start.
1. Why Are You Blogging?
Blogging is very easy when you don't intend to make money out of it. Just write and post whatever and that's it. No biggie. Now if you're blogging with profits in mind, then that is a totally different story. IT IS NOT AS EASY AS YOU THINK. Content will always be the center of the blog and it will depend on your answer to this question. If your answer is to share ideas, then you won't feel bad about writing long and possibly boring articles just to explain your point. If you're blogging for money on the other hand, then I guess it's easy. Just think of something that would catch other people's attention and you'll just have to write stuff that would touch human curiosity. My answer was both. I wanted to share and make money so I'm struggling to find a way to balance myself and my readers. I have to share my ideas in as detailed a manner as I want, but I don't wanna get my readers bored so writing is always a struggle for me and sadly I'm more on the boring details.
2. Getting Steady Viewership is Not a Simple Matter
So you know you can write interesting stuff and you think getting readers is easy right? Okay, I basically have read and tried to follow two articles and kept them at heart. One was from SEOMOZ and the other from Steve Pavlina. But seriously though, don't expect it to be easy. Making content can be the easiest thing in the world, but getting viewers is the hard part. Sure, I tried to change my titles to fit search engines. I tried to comment on other blogs and posted links. I get a huge rise in readership every time I spread the word on social networks. But, once I stop, my readership goes back down. As of today, I'm one month into blogging and the best I can make is an average of 20 views a day and that's without doing anything. I thought my articles would be easily searchable but I failed to realize that I'm not the only blogger who has thought of writing about the same thing. Sure there are billions of people out there but there are also millions of blogs to choose from. I thought I had my statistics right but I was wrong in even considering statistics. Blogging is hard work, as you will realize once you launch.
3. You Will Eventually Get To The Point of Asking Whether It's Worth It or Not
Yes, just one month into blogging and I'm already asking myself why I should push on. I'm not getting as much viewers as I thought I would. I'm not making as much money as I thought I would. I'm sure I'm making good quality content. I might be writing long and boring stuff, but I know that I'm giving anyone who reads my stuff something useful. Content is king right? Why am I not getting enough readers and making enough money? Plus, I'm giving up so much of my time and effort here. Well I have already found my answer through and internal conversation so I know I'm pushing through. Once you spend money on hosting and other things and you feel like you're failing, it could really hurt.
4. There Are Technical Stuff You Have To Know or Will be Forced to Learn
I have blogged before on a few free blogging sites and so I thought the process of getting my own host and stuff will be easy but no, it's complicated. I though that once I get a host, then I'll just install WordPress and it's done but it wasn't! Installing it was easy IF I KNEW HOW. The good news is, you can find the answers from tech support and of course from other blogs and sites. You will learn and be forced to learn things. If you're the type who doesn't wanna learn then you can either find someone who will do it for you, or just don't blog because seriously, blogging is not just about writing and posting. It's also about a lot of technical stuff.
5. You Will Become Public Property
Just like the stuff you post on your social network wall, the stuff you post on your blog is for everyone to see so don't get upset if people start coming up to you and telling you stuff that you don't want to hear. Public property is always subject to opinion so don't post anything that you don't wanna be criticized for. Be ready to be yelled at by people who will get offended. Be ready to be told anything. But of course, it's not always going to be bad. There are people out there who will appreciate what you're writing about and will let you know. That for me is the best feeling in the world. You can't please everyone right?
6. Blogging is Hard Work
You think blogging is simple? Maybe it is, if you just wanna make a diary of some sort. It makes sense because that is what blogging was originally. But, if you're blogging and you want to get a lot of readers and make income out of it, then it won't be so simple. Before launching my blog I of course did some research on other bloggers. Most of them say that blogging is a lot of work and I of course didn't wanna believe them. Like every "civilian", I thought that blogging didn't require too much effort and it was just for people who have nothing else to do but now that I'm into blogging, I have realized that it's also as difficult as any other regular job. Of course you don't exert too much physical effort by typing and clicking, but writing posts and finding ways to improve your blog and get readership can be nerve-racking. If you're serious about blogging, then you better consider giving up time to do things that you love to do. I gave up going to the gym, watching TV, and a couple of hours from my normal sleep time. Not really because I wanted to, but because I'm serious about blogging and I wanna make this work.
7. So Little Time, So Much to Do
Like I said above, you might have to give up a few things because serious blogging means serious time. I have a day job so all I have is my time at night. I used to spend an hour in the gym every day to keep in shape and now I'm a fat slob, not that I've been buff or ripped but I'm getting fatter. I used to watch a lot of TV but now I don't really watch as much anymore. I love sleeping and I require eight hours of sleep a day but now I get about four to six. I spend a lot of time blogging that I had to sacrifice a lot of things I used to enjoy. Was it worth it? Well I've been asking myself that but now I can say yes and I will keep doing this for a very long time because it is something I know I'm good at. I'm doing this because my thoughts and ideas are influencing others. I know that I am helping others and I know that in time, I can make money out of this. I just have to be patient and keep giving my best.

Blogger Readers

You may think I'm goofy, but I'll tell you what, my college fund is growing by leaps and bounds.
Hey, Kenton Verhoeff here touting the joys of blogging for cash and sharing principal ways you can save that cash for every kid's financial nightmare: COLLEGE. If you think about it, most kids do want to go - even if they have cash coming in all the time. College is like the ultimate option for 17-22-year-olds. If you don't go, you feel like a fish out of water, if you do go (and you're broke) you're in debt for a lifetime.
YUK! Who wants that!
So, here's the deal... We learn how to blog, make enough money to capitalize our college dream and keep us in gas money and groceries through college, and beyond. We don't have to USE the degree, unless we want to pursue more topics online with our college degree. Maybe you do want to Blog as Doctor Health? It works. But, the simple steps to Banking on your own Blogging income are below:
Step #1 - Write a blog for people who will BUY what you sell.
We've all got interests to spare, but something you're interested in will sell like hot cakes on Sunday morning at I-Hop. You just have to find that topic and write about it. My Mom is making big bucks writing about women golfers, wedding planners and coffee recipes. Another friend creates gaming tips and makes the BIG bucks with ebooks he prints in .pdf format. A friend of my brother's makes some serious cash translating music to tabs on his blog site. Pick a topic and find an audience who will buy it.
Step #2 - Build a marketing list from your blog readers.
Find a way to capture those names. Whether you give away a gift, offer a free call to your readers, or provide a whole collection of reprint rights materials, the choice is yours but find a way to capture name and email. You NEED those people on your list. One guy offers no access to his readers if they don't give him their name and email. He promotes most of his information in .pdf format, instead of blogging it.
Step #3 - Create a product a month to sell your readers.
Every month, without fail, create a product. Even if it's a $2 Report. Create a product your readers NEED and SELL it to your list (they have to be ON your list to buy it, but you can talk about it on your blog). Be sure you keep putting your products out to your list, as you build better and better relationships with those nice folks, more and more of them will buy more and more of your products.
If you're making good money on your Blog, it won't be difficult to bank 50% of your income for college. Pay taxes and use the rest of your income for things you want to do in high school. If you're thinking 50% is too much to save, think again. Tax will be a minimum of 36% of your income and you're not going to need much to live on, so you can just budget yourself to live on 14% because you'll NEED more of it later, than you do now (after all, Mom makes sure you're well fed in high school).
